Nap

Hi Ladies...so I am not a regular poster but I need your help/advice. I am a full time working mom and have been happy with my DS's daycare until recent. It is mainly with nap time. Lately he has only been taking one nap a day for 45 minutes (if we are lucky) which means by the time I get home my little guy is exhausted it is a stuggle just to get him in the bath. This in turn breaks my heart  because I do not get home until 6:15 and then he goes to bed by 7:30. Since he is exhausted he is super fussy and we do not get much quality time together. He is 10 months old...how long did your baby sleep at this age. Am I out of line to expect him to sleep more? Any advice will be very appreciated.

Re: Nap

  • We're pretty much in the same boat - and have been for awhile!  DD has been taking only 1 nap on most days for months.  We switched daycares about a month ago, and she did start taking 2 naps a day for about 2 weeks, but now we're back to one a day (for the most part).  We really pressed the issue at the old daycare, since she was so young I really wanted her to get more than 45min-1 hour, but we had limited success.  She is just to interested in her surroundings and she wants to play!  So, at this point, I'm just letting it go.  Yeah, it sucks, 45 minutes is not near enough, and she is so tired when she gets home.  And even on the weekends, she will only take one nap now - granted, it's usually 2-3 hours, but we simply haven't had success with a second nap for quite some time.  But I figure it's only another month or so before she switches to the new room and will be on the 1 nap a day routine anyhow (which I suspect she'll do really well with).  So... I guess have no really advice, but I totally feel your pain! It's really frustrating!  One thing I did do was adjust my work hours so I could get in to work earlier and then leave earlier, thus having more time with her in the evening.  It might not be possible for you to do, but I have found that it is really worth it.

  • This is something a lot of daycare moms deal with.  There is just so much going on and they are becoming so much more aware that its hard to get them to nap, even though they need it.  When he goes to the 1 year class and everyone naps together, it will get better.  Until then, you might think about an earlier bedtime.
