Anyone use an Ergo whilst pregnant?

I have been considering buying an Ergo as DS is 25lbs and hurting my back in the Bjorn, but I have just got my BFP and I am wondering if I buy it if I will be able to use if for long enough to make it worth while ... what is your experience?

TIA

Re: Anyone use an Ergo whilst pregnant?

  • I haven't used mine while pregnant, but I would think that using it as a back carrier would be okay. The only reason I haven't done it is because I wear a wig and don't trust my DS to not try to pull it off when being carried on my back.

Thank you, that's what I was thinking.
  • I used it while pregnant, but it didn't fit for long. I started showing pretty early and unlike the Bjorn the fit is really affected by your bump.

  • BUY IT!!!  Even if it doesn't last too long while pg, you will definitely get your $$$ worth.  I wore mine until about 4 months pg, but still use if w/ my youngest (18 months ALL the time!)  Bjorn was a life saver while my oldest was first born for a few months, then when I got the ergo I saw the light! you will too! =)
  • I still use my Ergo.  I use it in the house when I'm trying to cook or clean and I have also used it on trips to the zoo.  I'm not showing that much yet but I just make sure the strap is under my belly and it's fine.  My DS weighs between 21-23 lbs and I only use it on my back.

  • I have been using mine a lot lately, and I probably will for a while. I am tall, and the Ergo sits really low around my hips, so it's not pressing my expanding middle or uncomfortable (yet)l. My DD's about 21/22 pounds. I guess it didn't occur to me that I shouldn't be using it. It's so much easier on my body than holding/carrying her without it for extended periods.

I have to say, I didn't use the Ergo much when DD was younger (didn't want the infant insert) but she liked it a lot more than the Bjorn and it was much more comfortable for both my husband and I.

  • Thanks ladies, I'm going to buy one.
  • I have a Beco (so similar to an Ergo) and I wore it through both of my last 2 pregnancies, just with a back carry.  The hip buckles sat low enough it went under my belly.  It worked really well.

  • I wore mine while pregnant.  It was great.  I use the side and back carry when my bump was too big for the front carry.  Plus you will be able to use it with the LO when he/she arrives.

  • Yes, I used it as a front carrier until about 22-24 weeks or so.  I stopped using it when the pressure on my hips got to be too much - but it still buckled.  I didn't use it as a back carrier because DD1 didn't like that, but maybe I could have gone a little longer that way.

  • I didnt use that specific carrier, but wore my DS in a back carrier throughout my pregnancy.

  • I used mine while pg for a little while, I'd say the whole first tri. I used it mostly on my front and a few times on my back (the front carry had more "room" but using the back carry made the strap cut right across the belly). Then I've used it a ton with both kids since DD was born (I started using it with her around 4 months). Even if you can't use it for long while pg, you'll get a lot of use from it afterward. Plus, I know my mom used it for DS a few times while I was pg with DD.
