Vacuum cleaner recs needed

We have all wood floors in our house, but have 5 area rugs, one that is shag.  So, can anyone recommend a good vacuum that can accommodate a high pile rug?

I like my Hoover Windtunnel. It's a workhorse and cleans my shag rug just fine -- you just can't let it 'sit' for long on the rug or it will smell like something is burning.

For my wood floors, I hand clean for the most part -- but in a pinch the Hoover is fine.
