birth control FAIL

Well I haven't POAS yet because this just happened yesterday, so I'll do that in a few weeks. But I may have just screwed up...we definitely want a second kid but I was thinking, like many of you who posted, of not TTC until at least Dec or so! And even that would depend on some career stuff that has yet to be determined. 

For postpartum birth control I decided bc pills were not what I wanted because I have this weird idea (wrong, I know) that they could interfere with BF in some way, and also because I wanted my periods to be normal once I was ready to get off of them and TTC. And condoms don't realistically work for DH. On my mom's suggestion (honestly I don't remember when this came up so don't even ask), I decided to try the diaphragm...I know, so 70s, right? (she had one) 

I got the device recently and then just got my period for the first time postpartum a few weeks ago, so we just used it for the first time yesterday. Well, it requires spermicide and I thought that the lube we had already was also spermicide. It was not. And I'm totally a moron for thinking that. 

Based on my previous cycles, it is likely I'm in a fertile period now. So...this is not cool! I really wanted more just-DH-DS-and-me time before #2 and I don't want any pressure to wean DS. But close in age is fun for the kids (or can be) as well so I know it wouldn't be the end of the world. I am hoping for a BFN, though.
