How do your kids compare in size as babies? I have been thinking about this but Andrea's post reminded me to ask. Was one a giant and one small, or did they basically follow similar growth curves? Were they similar in size when they were born?
Obviously I'll just have to wait and see, but I wanted to buy some stuff ahead of time, and I always worry about the seasons matching up with sizes, etc. Caroline was really small, so should I just assume he will be on the small side to, or should I assume he'll be a normal-sized baby since boys are typically a little bigger? I can't imagine that he'll be a giant baby, but I guess it could happen?
Re: Moms of 2+
My kids have all been very, very similar. My boys actually weighed the exact same at birth (9 pounds, 5 oz), and Lauren was even bigger (9 pounds, 12 ounces). They are all similar in shape as well, with long torsos, and they don't gain weight super-fast after coming out so large. As far as I can tell from my friends, it can really vary from family to family though, of course! I have bought ahead a lot for Lauren, because so far she has been so close to her brothers in size and they were typically right on/slightly ahead of the age/size relationship up until about 18-24 months, and then the boys slowed way down - especially in the waist.
Cadence was 8lbs 1oz and 20.5 inches and Trevor was 9lbs 1oz and 22 1/4 inches. Both have consistently been in the higher percentages for height and weight (Cadence fell to 60% on weight at 2 years). So yeah, two giants for me.
I suppose anything is possible though. There are an equal number of tall and tiny people on both sides of our family. I had it in my head that Trevor would be a smaller baby since I measured right on track with him and measured large with Cadence. However, the measurement, per the usual, meant nothing
Anyway, if it were me, I would wait to see what size he is born at before buying too much ahead. Once you know the starting point I would think you will be able to predict his future size pretty well.

Grant was 6lbs 1 oz (he was 7 days early) and Reid was 7lbs 2 oz (he was 3 days late). Reid didn't gain as much weight early, and at his 3 month appt he was the exact weight and height Grant was. The first 1.5 years Reid wore all of Grant's old clothes but then he hit a growth spurt and is now wearing the same size as Grant!
I agree that I wouldn't buy too far ahead just because you aren't sure how big he will be when he is born.
Evie was 8 lb 9 oz and grew on a very normal/average scale. Liam was more than a pound smaller than her (even though they say 2nd babies are typically bigger) and has grown very fast and long. He has no baby fat and is very tall and skinny. He was in 6-9 clothes at 3 months just because of his length.
I would say wait to meet him before you start buying too much. Or else, don't wash it and take the tags off, because you may have to return it.
(Also, Lisa carried much smaller this time than she did with Ella and Lucy was bigger than Evie was. Lisa was just all baby, I guess.)
Mine keep on getting bigger.....
This won't be surprising:

My kids were both small at birth but they were both born early (Emma at 37w5d- 6lbs3oz, Tess 35w6d- 5lb11oz) but Tess is a giant compared to Emma. Emma was never above the 5% for height/weight and Tess is 50% weight 75% height. Tess also has a much bigger foot. She'll be 3 at the end of the month and just got measured at an 8.5 wide. Emma wore a size 10 in Kindergarden.
Emma is built like my side of the family. I think Tess takes after Bryan's dad's side of the family. I could alway buy Emma's clothes in advance and it would work out fine but I've already been burned several times trying to do that w/ Tess. Like I just bought 2 pairs of Stride-rites in July that she has never worn that are a 7.5m and they are way too small
Yep, mine are SO different. Both were born exactly 15 days late (actually had Lila been born 2 hours later it would have been the exact same time!) and Finn was 6lbs13oz and Lila was 8lbs2oz, and 1 inch longer. She is already in 6 month clothes and I am afraid will be out of those soon, she is just so long! She is off the charts for length, and 79% for weight (the CDC chart, 66% for the WHO chart, but also off the WHO charts for length). Finn, on the other hand, is consistently 5-7% for weight, and like 15% for height. He is definitely small!
I am pretty sure my pedi thinks I am crazy because when I take Finn in I stress about how small he is, and when I take Lila I stress about how big she is. I can't win.
Nkosi was 6lb 1 ~ born at 34 weeks
Kya was 5lb 6 ~ born at 38 weeks
Amiri was 7lb 12 ! born at 38 weeks
Its so hard to say whether he will be bigger. Usually second babies are but that didn't happen to me. And strangely Amiri was the biggest baby at birth but after he has continuously been my smallest child on the charts.. below 50th percentile in some cases when the other kids were in the high 90's!
this wife bakes.
One of my favorite cakes ever! I had a blast making this..all handmade with buttercream suds!!!!
