Poo Help-maybe TMI

Since last Friday (over one week) Lily has had diarrhea off and on. For a couple of days she would shart (pass gas and poo would come out), and then that stopped but she is still having 4-5 liquid poos a day (always right after she eats). I called the nurses line and they told me to do a modified BRAT diet and I tried that. She is still going and it is freaking nasty. Her little butt is sore from going so much and I have no idea what to do. The kid is tired of eatting bananas, rice, toast, and applesauce. I am not giving her any juice-just water and milk which the nurse said was okay. She has no other symptoms-no fever or vomiting. Any ideas on what else I can feed her?

  • My DS had a period of diarrhea last summer that lasted off and on for 2 months.  The only thing that kicked it was going dairy free for a few weeks.  Our pedi also ended up putting him on an anti-diarrhea med.  Maybe try cutting out the milk for a few days???

  • I was going to say lay off the milk too.  You might also try a small amount of pedialyte/g2 gatorade.  I also agree with the yogurt- some of the probiotic features may help.
  • No milk, no veggies, and limited fruit.  Keep her diet bland, and try some extra water or pedialyte.  Steer clear of dairy as pp have suggested.  It does aggravate diarrhea.  Bananas work well when DD has that problem.  I just start the peel for her, hand it to her, and tell her to eat it like the monkeys do.  That at least makes it entertaining for her.  There are some nasty bugs going around right now.  Hope she feels better soon.

  • You might want to get it checked out just to make sure its not shigella, crypto or any of those other GI things that are going around right now.  I think they are mainly in nky but not too sure...I just keep hearing about them on the news, but I know those bugs have to be treated with antibiotics.

Thanks! The nurse said to keep giving her milk, but at this point it is the only thing I havent subtracted from her diet. I am going to stop the milk and add yogurt to her BRAT diet and see if it helps.

Yeah I specifically asked about it because we are in NKY and they said that comes with fever and vomiting also. She doesnt have any other symptoms though.
