Washington Babies

Today is a BAaaddd day..

I just found out that DH has to have a root canal, his dental insurance will not cover it, so we have to pay $1200 out of pocket.  I am paid $500 for a crown today and somehow have to come up with the money in the next two weeks.  I'm comtemplating taking another part time job on weekends to help pay for baby stuff now, but am so stressed out at my full time job that I don't think another job would be healthy.  Although most of our big stuff is bought for the baby, we still need some pricey stuff such as a pump.

NOT good timing. Oh by the way, Did I mention we have to find another $500 in january for another crown... The baby is coming in january.  This on top of our car window/laptop is killing me. I seriously just spent ten minutes in the bathroom crying.

  • Awww, sweety, I'm so sorry =(  Dental expenses totally add up (I should know, I've had root canals and crowns put in, I'm still waiting to have one crown put on).

Is there anyone you can borrow the remaining baby things from?  Have you had all of your baby showers?  Check with your insurance about possible renting a pump from the hospital, I've heard sometimes insurances will cover it.

My mom always says "When it rains, it poors."  So here's positive thoughts for you that hopefully will become your umbrella!

  • You don't really need the pump right away. You can wait till after baby is born and you could even rent one from the hospital to see if it works for you. I rented one for 3 months and it was about 30 per month and then the kit with the tubes and cones was something like 50.  So you really don't have to get that right away. And some big things you can get on Criag's list. We got all of our nursery furniture used.

Sorry your going thur this and the timing sucks.

  • Aww sweetie that stinks!!  I was going to suggest renting a pump as well, thats what I plan on doing until I know what works best for me so I dont waste any money.   Also have your husband check with his dentist to see if he can get a temporary crown instead.  I got one about 6 years ago and It has never caused me any problems,  It will eventually need to be replaced, but at the time it was the only thing I could afford.  =)  Good luck!
  • I here ya hun! My husband is having all 4 wisdom teeth out tomorrow. That is 3 days before I have a c-section. Every penny will be out of pocket. At least you can write it off. I an extra bassinet and a pack in play if you want it. Let me know. Both in great condition.
  • I got my pump on ebay for $150.00 (new and sealed in the box), I purchased it a week before DD was due, which was right before christmas. It was a perfect time to buy because everyone was too focused on Christmas.

I know a lot of people have great luck with Craigslist for some of their stuff.

  • ask your dentist if they'll let you pay it all off slowly.  most will work with you.

also, do you have a deductible that you'll meet?  If so, it might be worth getting the second oen before january so it goes on the same deductible..

and yes you can wait on the pump, or ask for it as a christmas present from your family or something...

    sorry that all sucks...

  • no deductible, but his insurance will only cover a max of $500 a year for major work.  I"m trying to get him on my insurnace, there isn't a waiting period and it covers $1000 a year for major work so that way he could at least pay for most of the root canal.
  • Man, that sucks!  Does your dentist accept Care Credit?  It's like a Visa card for healthcare.  You'll have to pass the credit check, but you'll be able to pay about $100 / month.

    Good luck!
