Food Allergy

xp please help

My LO just had a screaming fit so much to where he is now hoarse, I thought he was just hungry so I fed him. Well, he kept crying when I would stop to burp him, then when he was done eating I went to change his diaper & his poop was really mucousy. :( So i googled it & it sounds like a milk allergy?? He has a rash around his mouth (we thought it was from his new pacifier) but i guess it's also common with milk allergy. He is FF with enfamil gentlease. Plus yesterday I thought he had blood in one of his diapers but wasn't sure, it wasn't a lot. Does this sound like a milk allergy to those that have babies allergic to milk?? I'm so concerned....I hate when things like this happen on the weekend!!!!!

Re: xp please help

  • Unfortunately, it does sound like it could be a milk issue.  My son presented with the same symptoms.  From what I understand, many babies outgrow this around 1 or so.  Our pedi recommended one of the hypoallergenic formulas (Nutramigen) as opposed to soy.  It is expensive and kind of gross, but he tolerated it.  I would probably call the on-call doctor tomorrow and have him be seen Monday if it were me.  He is so little!

  • Certainly could be. My DS's presenting symptoms were eczema on the face, congestion, reflux/constant colic, and mucus-filled stools. The blood started coming in the stools around 5 wks, I think, and its amount was related to the volume of dairy I consumed. I agree, contact your pedi.

  • My DS was fussy and gassy on the gentle ease. The dr will probably try soy first, before the hypoallergenic, that made DS very constipated. So that's when we went to alimentum, luckily I had good insurance andit was covered For the ready to pour.

  • I will definitely be contacting my insurance to see if they cover it!

good luck and if they say no, fight it (a friend had to fight it and send letters and eventually they covered it).

it does sound like an allergy so keep an eye out and buy a bottle of childrens benadryl to have in the house (just in case).
