Wool Balls Stink?

I made some wool balls today and now they smell bad after I washed them, almost like sewage.

Last night I had washed a PF that was poopy (I did rinse if off before). The washer smelt like urine this morning and so did the dryer but the diapers themselves never smelt (They smelt clean actually). I washed a pair of jeans after the diapers and they never smelt either. I made some wool balls washed them on hot and they smelt really bad and then dried them and they still smelt bad. I put all the diapers back in the washer and the wool balls and rewashed everything with Era. The smell again is not on the diapers but the wool balls still smell like sewage just not as bad. After saying all that my question is, is that normal?

Hmmm.  I can't say that I've ever smelled my wool dryer balls!  I know some wool has a pretty distinct smell when it gets wet.  I've even see people sell their soakers/longies due to the fact that they couldn't stand the smell.  I suppose you could give them an overnight soak in some detergent and see if this helps.  It may just be the wool you used though.
