Grilled asparagus?

I have never made asparagus before - does anyone have an easy and tasty recipe?

Do I need to steam it before I grill it? (How do you do that?!)

Or should I just make pasta salad?!? (We are having blue cheese steaks and baked potatoes)

Re: Grilled asparagus?

  • We make it grilled but I prefer to melt butter in a pan and just do it on the stove.  I also love pasta salad and want to come to your house to eat.

  • don't steam it.  Just drizzle on some olive oil and season with S&P.

  • I spray a very little amount of olive oil, then sprinkle lemon epper seasoning on them and put them directly on the grill or on foil. Gl!

  • I usually make a foil packet for it and drizzle it with olive oil, season it with some fresh garlic and S&P before tossing the packet on the grill.

  • OMG I LOVE GRILLED ASPARAGUS!!!

I'm sorry, it needed caps. I love it.

To grill: wash, snap off hard ends, drizzle with olive or coconut oil, put on hot grill for ? 3-5 minutes. Serve with additional drizzle of oil and some sea salt.

To steam: wash, snap off ends. Take a few paper towels, or cloth, and drench it in water - it should be dripping wet. Put some on a microwave plate, put asparagus down in one layer, cover with equal amount of dripping wet towel. Microwave 3 minutes. Perfect! Serve with drizzle of oil and sea salt, maybe some balsamic vinegar too.

    What is a foil packet?!

(I told you - I have never done anything like this!)

LOL, exactly what it sounds like.  I just take a piece of aluminum foil and put the asparagus (or green beans, or whatever) in the middle.  Add all your other stuff (seasonings, oil, etc). and seal it shut to make a packet.  I suppose it more so steams the asparagus than grills it but you can throw it right on the grill and don't have to worry about messing up your kitchen as well.  I do baked potatoes on the grill, too.

  • I put it in foil, drizzle olive oil and salt and pepper. I use a little garlic powder as well.  Close up the foil (leave a little bit open) and throw it on the grill. YUM.

  • I love love LOVE grilled asparagus. Almost as much as I love roasted asparagus.

I definitely agree with the ladies about the foil packet. That's the easiest way to prepare them on the grill without them rolling around everywhere. I usually do a drizzle of olive oil, salt, pepper, and some garlic. Just a little bit to give it some extra flavor.

And now I really want asparagus. :)

  • I like to add red pepper flakes as well as salt and pepper.  Really good if you like a little heat

  • I do it on the grill, but a little differently than everyone else has suggested. I actually take about six spears and skewer them crosswise, with one skewer near the tops and one near the bottom. That way, they get the grill marks and all that awesome grill taste and are super easy to flip and take off.

I know you didn't ask for this, but sometimes I shave the asparagus (blanched) with a vegetable peeler and serve it as a "salad" with lemon juice, S&P, and a bit of Parmesan. So delicious, and so easy!

Any way you do it, it's going to be awesome!
