DS is Benjamin an DS is Bryan so to me sharing the first initial is fine.  Do you still want a nickname?  If Ben is out maybe Sonny?

I instantly think high school when I hear Benson.

That was the high school that I went to in Portland.

Benson Polytechnic High School.

I'm not sure if I like it as a name.... =/

Not a fan. My grandfather was Benton. I like that more. But if you don't like Ben, I'd avoid all of the long forms of the name. He will definitely arrive at Ben at some point.

I think starting a son's name with the same letter as his father's name is endearing.

Personally, I don't like Benson at all. My H is Brian and my son is Brady, and they both have the same 3 initials (we planned it that way). They both have completely different names so what's the big deal? That being said, my second son does not have the same initials, we just did that with the first boy ( per my H's request).

Benson is the last name of just about all my cousins. So all I see is a last name. 

Even if I could get past that aspect, I too dislike the NN Ben. Yuck.

I love Bennett too and I do not think it is too close to Emmett. For siblings maybe, but not for friends.

Also, I do not like Benson for a baby name because the only Benson's I know of were from the TV show and my dog when I was little.

His friends may call him Ben down the line, but that doesn't mean you have to! Plus, I think Sonny is a pretty cool nn, IMO. Maybe if you started calling him that, his friends wouldn't feel the need to give him another nickname?

I really think it's a great and unique name and if DH really likes it so much I say GO FOR IT!
