Parenting

Oh, and felt like a sh*t parent tonight too.

Ian had an accident in his pants since he didn't get in the house fast enough to go.  No big deal, DH came in w/him to help.  Max and I finally come in and the H is in the bathroom with Ian finishing up with cleaning.  He tells Ian to wash his hands, so he does but in typical 4-year-old fashion it was way too fast.  Well H lost his patience (maybe Ian had been slow with whatever else prior) and grabbed his hands, rubbed them together, etc...basically washing for him.  Ian was tired and upset already, so started crying.  I told H to leave the room, and that I'd handle it.  He became an ass in his response and bit my head off, so I kind of lost it and yelled at him in front of the kids.

So then Max starts crying, Ian keeps crying, and I feel like a f'er.  And then to top it off, Ian comes out of the bathroom with me and as we sit on the couch he is sobbing saying he's sorry over and over again.  Broke my heart.  Seriously, felt like a jacka$$ for tonight's yelling and scaring them, but almost moreso for Ian apologizing for no reason.

  • Aw, we have lots of situations that just go to hell in a handbasket here!  Like the boys are just climbing the walls lately (we are dying for preschool to start back, 3 more weeks!), and DH comes home today and is all "why are you yelling at them? Why don't you try calmly telling them "no?"  Seriously, DH?????  He's only whined at me 50,000 times today on this exact topic!  I have to admit, I yelled a little something at him, along the lines of "you deal with them then!", while the boys watched with wide eyes.  I only felt a *little* guilty, they are driving me insane with the constant whining!!

  • First, I LOVE your kids names! We just had our little Ian last April. And Max is actually on my top 10 list for baby boys too.

That said, what you described is like, a normal day at my house. I really don't know how anyone goes through raising children w/o yelling. Maybe it's b/c that's how my mom did it. Idk. Personally, I hate doing it, but can't seem to change. So I wanted to tell you to cut yourself a break. It sounds like it rarely happens at your house. So at least know you're better than me! lol
