sick toddler - need some advice

My 19 month old ran a 102 temp last night that was easy for me to get down to 99 within an hour. It continued to go down and was normal into morning.  She woke up with no temp but slept until 11 AM.  So she was fighting something. Over the course of the day she's developed a slightly raspy voice and breathing. She does not cough alot, but when she does, it sounds kind of like a bark, but not really. I'm wondering if she's developing croup or pneumonia.  Still no repeat fever. If anything, she feels a tad bit cold to me now.    She's eating and drinking very little and getting increasingly crabby. However, I think the last dose of children's tylenol may have kicked in because she's quietly coloring now.

Obviously, I am going into the doctor's office tomorrow AM first thing. If she gets bad, it will be the ER tonite.  Just looking for some home remedy advice on what to do in the meantime.

I'm going to try ice chips to soothe her teething (Yup, she's getting in her eye teeth too!), a steam shower, children's tylenol, and pedialyte. I am going to keep trying to get her to eat some soft foods too.

Other than that am I missing anything else I can try to help soothe her?

TIA

Re: sick toddler - need some advice

  • When my son got his teeth (any of them) he got a temp of 104 the highest it got was 105.6 we called the er and they told us to give him a cool bath before be bring him in and we did. He hated it but, it worked. Then took him to the er and they kept telling us hes sick he has to be sick but, it was just his teeth. His ped. told us some kids just get high fevers and he prob always will (and he does). They told us to switch between the tylenol and motrin every other dose but, the first dose is both at the same time.

Its crazy to see them transform when they have a fever and don't feel good...and then the fever goes and they are back to normal.

Good luck! I hope it stays down!
