crib placement in nursery?

we have a small nursery and are having twins, we don't have alot of wall space for the cribs and I've read that you should only put the cribs on inside walls away from windows. This is close to impossible for us with the windows, built in bookshelf and closet. Just wondering how terrible it is to have a crib on an outside wall or a foot or so from the window? If you had to go with outside wall or window (newly installed) which would be your better choice? TIA

Re: crib placement in nursery?

  • I know one of the issues with the window is blinds, cords etc that baby can reach. As long as those are out of arm's reach when they are older it should be fine.

  • Can you turn the cribs so they stick out from the wall at the head/foot of the crib.  it's unusual, but it does happen.

  • I would choose outside wall over window because it's better insulated, both from temperature changes and noise.

We also have a small nursery and in ours the short side of the crib is against an outside wall and the long side against an inside wall.

This is how our crib is. The short end against an interior wall with about 1 foot on either side apart from the bookcases.

  • Didn't you recently post this exact same question and gets tons of responses?  There is nothing wrong with putting a crib against an outside wall.  You should, however, keep them away from windows.  If that means putting them in the middle of the room next to each other, that would be best.

  • we bought cordless blinds so that wouldn't be an issue but you ladies have so good ideas! we'll have to try out some of the above mentioned positions to see what fits good but I'll stick to wall over window. thanks for the advice! :)

  • Our nursery only has 1 inside 1/2 wall and slanted ceilings so our crib is going to be "kiddie cornered" from a corner of two outside windows and will be near a window but not close enough that the window can be reached (even by a toddler).  We will be having roman shades and the cords will be on the opposite side of the window tied up with a boating cleat.
