Deep fried butter on a stick

yep. an entire stick of butter on a stick and deep fried.

going on sale at the iowa straw poll. nothing like making informed political decisions while consuming your own personal stick of butter. only in america.

i saw it on the daily show last night and this morning its all over the news. here's a link that shows how its made.

I think it sounds pretty good. Also, it said 400 calories...seriously? I would have thought it was a lot more. That can't possibly be an entire stick.

I heard about this on NPR this morning ...gag! barf!  ...now if we're talking deep fried oreo or twinkie, I'm totally in, but deep fried butter?  just go hurl yourself off a cliff, it'll kill you faster!

Yeah, this was on the news yesterday here...it seriously makes me want to vomit just thinking about it!  400 calories?  Try 4000!!!  My arteries are hardening at the mere mention of it...LOL

Yes, there is such a thing as a butter on a stick. I am from Iowa, so I will explain the reason why. This in honor of our butter sculpturer that passed way. She makes a butter cow every year and does something else like Dr. Sues, Harry Potter, Shawn Johnson all out of butter. She did amazing work. The stick on the butter not going to lie sounds gross. This is found at the Iowa State Fair not the Straw Poll. The fair has hundreds of things on a stick some good some bad for you. The link below is all the food they sell on the stick.

it premiered at the fair, but they are definitely selling it at the straw poll too. apparently since it was such a big hit at the fair.

lol I just went to the State Fair in Milwaukee a few days ago, and that was a huge item (along with the deep fried smores and deep fried cream cheese with bacon on a stick). Blech!

I like things fried IN butter, but I don't think I could ever eat just plain butter.  I think this is one for BOTB, though.  As I recall she loves plain butter!

The butter in the centre is 400 calories, they didn't calculate the batter, the oil used for deep frying or the topping.  It is probably more like 700 calories and 50 grams of fat.

They had this at our fair last year.  Believe it or not, one of the most calorie conscious fair foods is cotton candy which is about 200.

This!  I've had a deep fried Snickers bar before.  It was yummy but oh so bad for me.  Deep fried butter makes me want to barf.

I COMPLETELY justify my cotton candy addiction by the fact that a whole frickin bag is 200 calories!  YEAH spun sugar!!!

heart attack waiting to happen. lol.  Actually it doesn't look half bad in the end, but knowing it was a stick of butter I was eating I could never do it.  I posted this on the other deep fried post, but this year they also came out with deep fried kool-aid.  What will they think of next to deep fry?!

I like plain butter too.  But only in tiny portions and as a treat.  I slide off a wafer thin sliver and then let it melt in my mouth - yum!  I blame it on growing up with margarine.

But a whole stick of fried butter - too much America.  Too much.

We had that at the Wisconsin State Fair this year.  I didn't go, but my DH did and he said it looked even more gross in real life!
