Potty Training

How to convince DC that pooping on the potty isn't scary?

I truly believe that if we went for it, DD would easily pee on the potty full time.  But she is terrified of pooping and has never done it.  We take her to the potty when we notice her starting, but she will sit there and hold it till we take her off and put a diaper on.  She cries when we try to encourage her.

What's worked for you?

  • I'm interested in hearing what people have to say because DS is PTed but he still acts very scared of pooping (anywhere, diaper included, since he became PTed). He'll hold it for days when he can.

  • Soften DC stools. My first didn't have issues pooping my second was a bit scared. What we did was make 8 oz of Miralax- so that's one capful of Miralax with 8 oz of liquid (we used Crystal light fruit punch). From that 8 oz we took 1 tbsp of the mixture and gave it to DC twice a day- once in the morning and once in the evening (now again it was 1 tbsp of the mixture- so its NOT 1 tbsp of Miralax). This soften the stool without it being runny and LO was much more comfortable going poop. After about 2 weeks we slowly decreased it until LO no longer was on it-  you should not zig zag doses (meaning skipping because you think LO got all their poop out, etc) or just drop it completely.
