My doctor is on board with a VBAC, however the OB who acts as her backup when she's OOT is apparently not keen on VBACs.
My doctor will be OOT for a few days when I'm 38.5 weeks. Obviously I want my OB to be the one there for the delivery anyway, but now that I know (or am hearing, anyway) that he's not a fan of VBACs, I'm extra nervous.
Do I really have any options here, aside from switching OBs? I mean, I can't make a doc who doesn't want to do a VBAC agree to do one, which is just frustrating because I've come this far planning on a VBAC and having my doc on the same page as me, and I would be really pissed if I got to the very end and ended up having a RCS just because my doc was OOT and the on call doc refused to do a VBAC.
Re: Anyone else worried about this?
Have you voiced your concerns and asked for advice from your primary OB before he leaves?
Also, I'd get a doula.
I was in a similar situation with my first vbac- it was a large OB practice and 3/4 of the OB's were onboard with my VBAC plans but when I was 28ish weeks one of the OB's left the practice and the new OB that they hired to replace him was very antiv-vbac and basically told me that if she was on call when I went into labor I'd be having a c-section.
Long story short I left that appt, went home did some research, found an AMAZING midwifery practice that my insurance covered and switched immediately.
I ended up having a wonderful drug free VBAC and am SO glad I switched practices!
