Need advice on a 5-point booster seat

Hi ladies - here's my dilemma:

My parents currently have a Graco My Ride for Rowan but she's really just too tall for it, and it fits awkwardly in their SUV.

I want to go ahead and get them a seat that will transition into a booster, and I'm looking at either a Graco Nautilus or a Britax Frontier.

Has anyone used either of these in the second row of an SUV with bucket seats (like a Tahoe or Yukon)?

TIA!

Re: Need advice on a 5-point booster seat

  • I have the Frontier and it's fab. We're using it as a 5-point harness seat right now until G's old/big enough for just a booster. It works fine in my Dad's truck, my wagon, and DH's tiny car. It should work in bucket seats.

  • We like the Frontier too!  My only complaint is that its too upright for Gavin to sleep comfortably in it... his head flops forward.  But this is the case with all boosters so its nothing to do with this particular seat.  I preferred the Frontier over the Nautilus just b/c he could stay in the 5 pt harness longer w/ the Britax.  But the Nautilus is a great choice as well.  Can't go wrong w/ either one, really.  The Graco's go on sale more often and for a lot less than the Britax so I'd be inclined to go with that for a grandparents car.

  • Another vote for the Frontier!
  • We love the Frontier too! I agree about it being hard to sleep in, we just drove down to Destin on Friday, at night, and ds had a hard time sleeping because his head was just flopping everywhere. We need to give him a pillow.

  • Another vote for the frontier.  We really like ours!  And C sleeps just fine it, but then again she has always been a good car sleeper! :)

  • we've got the graco and we love it.  I think we chose it over the frontier because there were "complaints" about it being "difficult to install" whatever the hell that means, and that it was bulkier and the baby bargains book gave the nautilus a slight advantage over the frontier so we went that route.  honestly I don't think you can go wrong with either.  but thought I'd chime in with a "we're happy with the graco" just to confuse the situation.  :)

  • I just order two of the Britax Frontier 85 models.  They should arrive tomorrow, so I don't have a real opinion about them.

My other car seats are Britax, so I figured that I'd stick with them, and i really wanted a 5 point harness.  I like that you can convert it to a "seat belt" booster as they get older.

You can do that with the nautilus too.  As Finn likes to say "my seat grows with me", which he likes to tell everyone who ever gets in our car with us, lol!

  • We have the Frontier as well and have never had any complaints in the year and a half since we started using it.  Oh and we have bucket seats in DH's SUV and it fits fine. I actually think it's easier to install on the buckets, b/c the latches are easier to get to.
