Sitting up on own?

DS can sit unassissted, but he can't put himself in the position. What's the movement for them to learn to do it? I'd like to help him

DD just started doing this about 2 weeks ago.  I didn't do anything to help her - she figured it all out on her own. She does it from a crawl position - tucks on leg under, and pushes up.  She hasn't done it from flat on her back yet.  She started crawling about a week after she learned to get into a sit.

I wondered if it was related to crawling... he tries to do a pike, falls to the side and gets angry. We're not there yet.

A started trying to do it on his own. He starts from a crawling position, shifts his weight to on butt cheek and supports himself with one arm. He hasn't been able to actually push himself into sitting yet but he's close.

Same as pp...he usually gets to a sitting position from crawling.  If I put him on his back during play time, he immediately rolls onto his tummy, pulls his knees in and bakcs up onto his butt into a sitting position.  He has never pulled himself straight up into a sitting position from flat on his back.
