TTC after 35

IVF and Insurance Questions

Hi ladies, normally I hang out on the D&R Board, but today I had IUI #3, TTC #1, and needed some optimism.  For those of you who are doing or considering IVF, does your insurance cover it and if so, what kind do you have?  I'm just curious because many don't.  I have BC/BS and they don't cover anything, not even the meds.  Anyway, Hopefully #3 works, but just in case......

TIA.

Re: IVF and Insurance Questions

  • I have BC/BS-the gov't plan- they do cover IVF up to 50,000My RE is contracted with them so they have a reduced fee that they can charge-Good luck

  • I have BlueCross (now Anthem) and they did cover some, but a pittance really. Up to $2k for the procedure and $1500 for the meds.  I ended up just using my insurance for the pre-IVF stuff (the ultrasounds, office visits etc) and paid out-of-pocket for the actual procedure.

It sucks and I definitely feel for you. Hopefully you won't ever need it!

  • Before I got laid off I had Cigna, which is great for most things but did not cover any infertility treatment or meds, just IF diagnostics (tests, HSG, etc). What good is getting diagnosed if you can't do anything about it, right? Now I'm jobless so I have to research my husband's health plan at work to see what they cover. It's Humana, so my guess is it covers even less than Cigna. So for us, if we have to do IUIs and IVFs, we're SOL. I don't think we'll be able to get a loan for that and we don't have savings. And I can't imagine asking our parents for money for IF treatments, that would be so depressing.

So still praying like crazy for us to get pg naturally or at least with Clomid only. Maybe a couple IUIs would be affordable but no IVF. It's too expensive. *sigh*

Me: 44 DH: 42. DS born healthy at 40 weeks 8/24/09. TTC since then with no luck or ART. Surprise BFP 8/6/14... MMC @ 8 weeks 4 days... Miss you everyday sweet baby angel.
  • I agree, IVF is so pricey, almost too much to even put on a credit card.  I just don't want to start off $20,000 in debt with no guarantees that it will work.  Good Luck to all of us.
