I think I've made a big decision

I've been thinking long and hard recently about my current career path. I don't hate my job or the industy that I am in, but I don't love it either. I am fortunate to work for a great company and that I was able to get hired back after taking 2 years off to SAHM. That said, I just can't see myself doing this forever. For me, I work to live, not live to work, so if I have to do this any way, I want to do something that I love. I think that I have decided to go back to school. I have an Associates Degree, but I never finished up with my Bachelors Degree and have about 15 credits left, however, that was with my old major. I think that I want to completely switch and go after my Bachelors of Science with the plan of becoming a Registered Dietician. It is not even remotely related to my current field or my previous major, so I know that I'm going to have to take a lot more than 15 credits to get my degree, but I think that it will be worth it. Plus, while I'm at it, I may just finish out the 15 credits I need for my BA and get a dual degree. I have to figure out the logistics of it all, moneywise, timewise, etc, but I think that I am very excited about this decision. My goal is to be able to start taking classes again in the Spring, so wish me luck!

One thing that I have really enjoyed on my journey to lose weight was the actual research side of things. I love learning about nutrition and the science behind it and how all of that has helped me. I want to be able to help other people in the same way, by sharing my knowledge and helping them down the path to proper health. I would love to work for a hospital or even in a Nursing Home to be able to help those who really need it. I have learned so much from my experience and have enjoyed every minute of it and I really can't think of anything else that I would rather do.

  • That's awesome. I think you'd be really great at that since you've been through a dramatic weight loss. You have a perspective that not everyone has, and you can offer a lot of great advice and support since you've dealth with it before. You can relate to people struggling and that's huge.

Plus, I know my gym has a part-time dietician that you can make appointments with to work around schedules. I'm sure you can find something like that at first to build up clientele while still working at your regular job.

  • Very cool! Are you going to go full-time? It is tough to be a student along with everything else, but also rewarding. I cant wait to be finished!
  • Good luck!  That's great news!

  • Fantastic! All the best to you.
  • GL! FYI, Talbot's used to have a scholarship for women, be worth looking into if they still have it.
