I go through these phases where I'm concerned about my privacy online. I've decided that I'd like to be a bit more anonymous in the forums -- my screen name is one that many people associate me with and I don't like the fact that all my posts come up when you google it. I know there is not a way to change my username, but if I delete my entire account, will that remove my username from the posts I've posted?
Re: NBR: how to delete username
I don't know of a way to get rid of all the things you've already posted - even if you delete your account, your posts will still remain, you just won't be able to post under this username any more. On the other hand, you won't be creating more posts under a name you don't want to use, kwim?
Random semi related topic: it irks me that although I can change my email on my contact details, I have to use the same one I registered with to login. Which would be fine if I still used that email address for anything else, but I switched to another one ages ago and would love to just shut down the previous one (but I assume doing so would make me unable to login to my account here). It's annoying me enough that I'm considering changing screennames.
Thanks, I thought that might be the case but was clinging on to bits of hope that there was a better way. In my Googling, it seems a lot of folks are upset at how difficult it is to figure out how to delete your account on theknot/nest/bump.
Anyways, for now I will just stop using this account...new screenname coming soon...
You probably already know this, but you can delete your posts individually (if they aren't "expired" yet--aka too old). If they're deletable, you can maybe at least go through a few posts that you don't like hanging around that came up on Google and delete them individually?
Oh, and Google caches the content, so if you really want the content gone, then the best way is to edit the post first (delete most of the text or something), wait an hour or so for Google to recache it, then delete the post all-together. It's a bit tedious.
Yeah, unfortunately, there isn't really a good way to detach your username from your posts on TB/TN/TK =/
Thanks! There's nothing in particular that I want to erase...just don't like the idea of being tracked down. Maybe I am getting a little carried away thinking that someone would even try to Google me...
