take ibpro. about 30-45 min before you go in, then take it around the clock for 24hours at least. That will help with the cramping. When I had my 1st put in after DS1 I almost passed out, but then I had another put it after DS2 and it wasn't as bad. It still hurt (think of the worst cramp you've had), just not as bad. It is totally worth it though, IMO. I love having it. I had a light period for the first few months, then it was lighter, then gone completely. I like that part
I got it put in last September and I had spotting all the way til March (enough to require a pantiliner everyday). I stopped spotting in March and haven't spotted or had a period since then. I did have some cramping the day I got it and the day after but nothing after that.
Mine hurt like a sonofab!tch going in. SO BAD. But I hear that's not normal. Apparently my cervix is off-center, so the repeated jabbing is what was so painful. Once she figured out where she needed to be going with it, it wasn't terrible. Definitely take some Advil before you go.
I had some cramping that day and the next and spotting for about three weeks. I haven't had any bleeding since, but I am EBF-ing, so I don't know if I'll start having periods again in a couple months.
Insertion for me was a breeze. Got mine at my 6 week pp appointment with DS2. I had a pelvic exam anyway and the actual insertion added 30ish seconds and literally, literally felt like a pinch.
Having said that, I bled, bled mind you, for a couple of months (a kick in the pants as I was exclusively breastfeeding) and I have had full on and regular periods since.
But, not worrying about BC has been great. I am happy with my decision.
promised myself I'd retire when I turned gold, and yet here I am
Insertion was painful like labor contractions. As I left I passed out in the lobby of the doctor's office. (Thanks goodness I live in a city and walk everywhere - I couldn't have driven the rest of the day).
I had to go back 2x to get the string shorted because dh could feel it during sex.
I had minor spotting and then haven't had a period since (2 years ago). I love my Mirena despite the rough beginning.
I just had mine inserted a couple weeks ago. I was under anesthesia for a surgical procedure at the same time, so I can't speak for insertion. The cramping the day after was pretty henious. I felt like I was in labor all day and it didn't help that it was a crazy day at work. Definitely stock up on ibuprofen! After 3 days, the cramping subsided to once or twice a day and now two weeks later, nothing. I've only spotted enough to get on the toilet paper, not enough for a pantyliner.
Getting it in wasn't an awesome feeling but it wasn't unbearable, like a bad period cramp. At first I spotted irregularly in between heavier monthly periods. Now I still get a monthly period but it is light and only lasts a couple days. I absolutely love it! Pre- IUD I had horrible, heavy 7-8 day periods with very bad symptoms (cramps, backache, moodiness etc.) With the IUD I no longer have to deal with all of that, seriously amazing!

I got the paraguard in November. Hurt like my worst labor contractions (and I had no epi with my dd). I almost passed out after the exam. Not much spotting or cramping. They told me no need to check the strings. Big mistake. In April I got a bfp. The iud had fallen out without me knowing. I was shocked. Apparently it happens to 1 in 10 IUD's. Just something to be aware of. I had no period bc I was ebfing. I went on to miscarry, but the whole thing sucked. I wish I would have known about them falling out, I would have been more insistent about checking. They dont tell you those little facts in the brochures. . That said, I have several friends who love their IUD's and have had them stay in place for years, without issue.
