Due to my crazy planner divaness . . . I called around to a couple of local daycares to get some information. The two DH and I really like are saying to get on the waiting lists right away to guarantee a spot . . . It seems a little early, but I guess in about 6 months LO will be here and 8 weeks after that they will start daycare.
Has anyone else started looking into this yet?
Re: Daycare . . .
Yes, infant spots are hard to find around here. We actually just reserved a spot this week for #2 at the daycare that DD goes to.

My cousin is in Houston and put her child on a waiting list and had to put a deposit down at the center her older child was at - she wasn't even 8 weeks when she had to do that. The good ones have a waiting list and often current students families have the first chance to get spots.
The OP taking a list to the hospital - it might not be a bad idea to call ahead regarding that - especially if you need care starting at 6 weeks. Otherwise, sorry if I read that wrong!
Oh, this is for primary schools! Not day care. The schools here don't allow you to place your child on the waiting list until they have a legal name... :] Thanks though! Glad you're looking out anyways :]

There's a website called nannies 4 hire, and it's actually a pretty good site for finding nannies in your area. There's also a program that you can get nannies from other countries, though they are live in, I'm not sure if that's what you're looking for. But my friend came to America from Australia and was a nanny for a family with two children and it cost the family I think $150 a week, which seems reasonable, I think.... though I'm not really an expert :]

I let DD's school know about the new one so we have a spot for Sept 2012. I am actually thinking of just getting a nanny instead though. Dealing with sick days, specaial holidays and weather closures drives me crazy with just one little one.
We are in NYC area so daycare is super expensive to being with. We will probably save getting a nanny.
Ok, that makes sense! Sorry lol!
I have been looking into daycares as well, it is going to be hard. I have cried already everytime I think of putting LO in daycare, but I can only be off work for 6 weeks.
struggling with guilt already! it is worse when most my family members/friends are stay at home mom's, maybe they can help me out but I feel bad pawning my baby off on them.
yet another thing to figure out...
We are looking at live in nannies - can you tell me what agency your friend used? I will have to check out Nannies 4 hire.
Daycare for 2 is unreal around here, cost wise.
Lol, Sapphire, no problem!!
Okay, anardi, I'm going to go fb message my friend right now and ask what the program was called... I believe it's called nannies for america, but let me check before I give you wrong information! :]

Anardi -
The company is actually called Cultural Care Au Pair.
If you'd like more information, my friend said she can give it to me! Let me know!! :]

With #1, I started looking as soon as I hit the 2nd trimester and had our spot reserved by 20 weeks or so. I also know MANY people who waited until they were on maternity leave and still found a place. We are at a home daycare and it's worked out great.
I just told our daycare provider yesterday about #2 because she mentioned an infant starting in October so I freaked out that there wouldn't be a spot for our kid - luckily there will be an opening because of my #1 turning 2 - so now we've got our spot reserved!
