How long is too long?

My LO is 6 weeks old.  How long is too long to let her go between feedings?  Last night she ate at 9pm and then slept until 5am!  So she didn't eat for 8 hours!  Granted, her 9pm feeding was a big one, but still -  I was so surprised when I woke up and realized how long she slept!!  Should I be setting an alarm to wake her up after a certain amount of time to be sure she doesn't go too long between feedings?  What is too long?

They always say "don't wake a sleeping baby." I didn't listen to this at first when my ds was younger. (He's a little over 6 weeks now) I would wake to feed at night after about 3-4 hrs of no feeding if he didn't on his own.  But at this point, I believe that our LOs can and do let us know when they are hungry. So IMO I'd say let her sleep. She'll wake when she's ready and hungry.

As long an your LO is back up to birth weight I'd say it's fine to let her sleep.

I never woke my daughter up, and we never had a problem with her weight gain. Occasionally she would sleep longer than 3 or 4 hours, but cluster feed when she woke up. So she balanced it out all on her own.
