We have the BJCS and I just recently thought about getting a Maclaren Twin Triumph, but then decided against it because I really like the tandem aspect of the BJCS. I really dislike how wide the SBS strollers are.
I know the bugaboo donkey is at least twice as much as the BJCS and I don't like SBS strollers so for me its the BJCS hands down. I love mine so much. I use it everyday. I love that it can be a single stroller if I have just one child with me! It steers great and I can take the seats out and put them back in really quickly.
I picked the bugaboo because I wanted to use bassinets instead of carseats in the beginning, wanted something that would handle really well in the snow, and I'm not a big mall shopper so I wasn't worried about the slightly wider sbs. It also can be used as a single if you only have one kid with you (the frame slides inwards). It does cost more but it was my splurge.
umbrella? no need- the sun shades are pretty huge - and if you are blocking rain- you want a rain cover.
i love the BJCS. LOVE.
the Donkey is certainly a cool stroller- but I don't see much benefit for me - other than being really cool looking, everyone knowing you have a super expensive stroller, and the option to pull on sand is pretty cool- but the couple times a year I'd need that = not worth it for me. The cost is THAT much more that I find it not worth it unless you simply just like having the cool new stroller... which is not a bad thing (i love having a nice stroller, lol)
The BJCS has bassinets avail- but honestly - i think they are a total waste of money - in pretty much any stroller that has a flat recline- there is no need for a bassinet - an infant can use any stroller seat that is fully reclined. Bassinets just look cool... but are used for such a short time period- unless you have lots of money to blow- it's better to save your money and not bother.
I love having a tandem - it fits everywhere... i never have issues at the doctor's office, stores, etc. With any type of SBS you will have issues getting through tight areas - the doc office being one that is most difficult for me - i made the huge mistake of once only having a SBS in my car when going to the doc - i had to make them rearrange their whole waiting area so i could get through! ugh.
I used to be Goldie_locks_5 but the new nest is so screwed up that I was forced to start over.
I actually have a phil and ted's so can't chime in on the big stroller debate. For a umbrella like stroller we are going to be getting the kinderwagon. It will be much easier to get them in and out of daycare with it instead of having to get out the big stroller. We live in DC and there is a bit of a walk from where I can park to the daycare.
1) I have the BJCS and did not buy an umbrella stroller. They always looked kind of flimsy and crappy to me.
2) BJCS, hands down. It's so versatile, esp if you ever need to take out just one baby or if you plan to use it for singleton babies in the future. I also own a Bumbleride Indie Twin, which is an awesome stroller, but it's bigger and bulkier (despite being narrower than many SBS on the market) and not convenient at all for shopping. Although it fits through all doors and turns on a dime, it doesn't navigate well through displays and racks in stores. We use the Bumbleride more for parks and walks, etc. The BJCS, however, fits everywhere I go. It's the stroller we keep in the trunk for being out and about.
That being said, if you are dying for a SBS, there are way better options out there than the Donkey. The Stroll Air My Duo looks super cool, as does the Mountain Buggy Duet. Both are half the price of the Donkey. The Duet is brand new and sold out everywhere, but pishposhbaby.com has it right now for pre-order shipping this month. If I wasn't having a third baby, I would sell my Bumbleride for the Duet in a heartbeat as it's as narrow as my BJCS. There's lots of great info about the Duet in the "Forums" section of strollersandprams.com.
