How times a week do a playgroup or activity?

I would probably say we do something almost everyday during the week, whether it's going to the store or a playgroup or a library/toddler time but i am wondering if that's too much. On days that we dont leave the house i get bored but sometimes i wonder if that's too much for the kids. Anyway just curious what others do. thanks!

  • We used to go out just about every day until DD started pre-school, too. I still let DD play at home to her heart's content for some period of time, but I don't think she would have gone for being shut up in the house all day. Some days our activity was something as simple as going to the local playground and she always seemed really happy to see and play with other kids there.

  • DD (2 yrs, 11 mos) goes many days without leaving the house (not including going for a walk in the neighborhood) - maybe 3 or 4/wk. We have a playdate or activity about once every 2 to 3 weeks.  Yep, you read that right.  She gets out to run errands and such a few times a week too, but not for child-centered activities.  I don't think there is a wrong or right way of doing this - people have such different thresholds for how much they like to be gone or home.  Obviously we are happy at home, and I don't put much stock in this "early socialization" craze so this is what works for us.  If your LO seems to enjoy the outings and also has plenty of alone/down time at home, it is probably just fine.

    THIS!

But we also do not have the accessible activities that it seems most other bigger cities/towns have...we have 1 decent playground and it's covered with drug dealers...so we avoid it like the plague!!!  We have kiddie central set up here...a finished basement w/every toy imaginable...and she has her play pool and outdoor toys...It's a combination of things...it's not that we "like" being cooped up...but I really don't think that she could handle that much going out time...she is in a meltdown stage right now...

  • We are out everyday. Two days a week, we have group kid stuff - a gym class and a music class. Usually a one on one playdate once a week or every other week. The other days, we usually do at least one kid-centered actiity - swimming, going to visit my parents. And one day a week we usually hang out around the house and then do the big grocery shop for the week.
