Hey ladies-
My Dr. told me (appointment earlier today) that I am 1cm dialated and 60% effaced. She was really happy with the progress, said she could already feel the baby's head! YIKES! She said if I wanted to, we could induce August 24th (my due date is Aug 31st). Why do you think she said that? Any reason I would want to?
Re: 1 cm dialated, 60% effaced, Induce??
Unless it's medically necessary, why do doctors even suggest this? I don't understand why everyone, even the docs, want to end pregnancy before the baby says it is ready.
Just my two cents.
I agree that I'd like the baby to come on his own. Was just wondering if there was any reason why I would want to, other than knowing the date. I'm kind of looking forward to the big surprise moment when I go into labor... don't want to schedule it or ask him to come before he's ready!
Just like to hear everyone's opinion
I wouldn't want to. It's unnecessary unless you have some medical issues you didn't mention. She's probably used to people being more impatient ...
The only pro I can see is convenience for you, but you will also be stuck in the hospital longer since you will be there before any labor actually starts.
Some people like to have a predictable date for birth. Also it is one way to have your doctor deliver your baby and not the doctor on call.
That being said would I do it? No. It will be much easier on your body for you to go into labor naturally.
I wouldn't. Especially if this is your first. They tried to induce my first early because of BP issues. I was there 3 whole nights on medications to induce ctx (so having ctx the whole time) only to have them say it was a "failed induction" and sent me home! No, I wouldn't ever do that again if I had a do over. Oh, and I was only allowed to eat 1 meal a day the whole time (at dinner).
*Unless you have a very real medical need to induce early.* In which case they'd never send you home (or make you wait 3 nights) but do a c-sec instead.
This, absolutely 100% this. I will never understand.

Similar story, but not so much.
Induced for unnecessary reasons just short of 40 weeks. 3cm and 80% when I went in. Was in labor for 12 hours, needed an episiotomy and nearly a c-section. Had I not been induced, she would have likely turned on her own (posterior) and things would have been a whole lot less grueling with a lot fewer complications.
One person's story is hardly a predictor of what you'll go through. Natural labors do, however, carry with them fewer complications, statistically, than induced labors.

I agree.
Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding.
In all your ways acknowledge Him,and He shall direct your paths.
Proverbs 3:5-6
With my previous baby I was induced at 39 weeks because of my placenta giving problems. I was terrified that I would take much longer to give birth and that it would be much more painful. I was 1cm dilated when they induced me and I gave birth three hours later! It was so fast!! However I must be honest and say that the contractions where a bit more intense than with my other two. The only thing I regret is that there wasn?t enough time for an epidural but even that wasn?t so bad as going med free was a liberating experience!
Personally I think it?s every woman?s own choice but if there are medical reasons for it an induction is really not the end of the world.
Just depends on what you want. Personally I don't mind induction. Then again I've never had the chance to have my water break. I've had Natural "Deliveries" but my water wont break on its own so I've had to have mild intervention to get the ball rolling. Going over due isn't great when you stop sleeping altogether. And my babies were not gonna come without some coaxing. But once the ball got started everything else went fine.
If my Dr suggests inducing me this time I will most likely say yes. I find no issue with it b/c from past history my body does not like to get rid of the baby.
My Dr has been really amazing the whole time and she's very modern. So I was surprised that she said it as well! I had it in my mind (Since day 1 of my pregnancy) that I wouldn't induce unless my Dr. said it was necessary. So, I really appreciate your feedback and I think it has just reinforced what I felt from the beginning.
