Pregnant and Looking for a Room to Rent

My boyfriend and I are expecting our first child in about two months, it's been so hard to find rooms or basements that are for rent within our area that not only allow children but are also within our price range. Our monthly budget is $700, including utilities. We've been looking so hard, but can't seem to find anything. I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions or knew if anyone was renting out a room or basement in the Silver Spring/Rockville area...

It sounds like your ideal solution would be a basement apartment instead of just a room (because a single room in a house would be too close for comfort to people who aren't crazy about crying babies).  One of my friends just rented a basement apartment in Arlington for $650/mo, so it's probably doable.  Go to this link and type in 'basement' and hopefully you can sift through there to possibly find something that works.  Good luck!

Have you looked into apartment complexes that offer below market rates because of the loans they received to finance their construction. My brother also lives in a basement apartment for $650 per month including utilities. It's in Rockville and it's not huge but it's enough room for him. I hope you are able to find something.

Are people telling you outright that they don't allow children?? that is HIGHLY illegal!  If you think they are finding other reasons to turn you down, you should have your boyfriend look at places alone and take pictures.  Once they make you an offer for the place, they should not be able to rescind it because you're pregnant.  I'm sorry you're having such difficulties!
