playing on the carpet or a blanket?

We have all hardwood floors besides the area rug in our living room, dinning room and DS's room. When my DS was very small, we obviously put a blanket down on the floor for tummy time, but now that he is rolling all over the place, it seems impossible to keep him on one! He is rolling onto the carpet and hardwood floors because he is on the move! I keep my house clean, and my carpet and floors...but it just seems weird to let him roll around on the floor without a blanket!! Anyone else feel this way? Do you ladies still put a blanket down? Am I just being kind of a germ-a-phobe?

Re: playing on the carpet or a blanket?

  • Once they get mobile, I think it's going to be impossible to make sure there's always a blanket under them. All you can do is keep the floors clean! Beck will sometimes roll off the blanket onto the carpet and he will just sit there amazed rubbing the carpet. He loves the new textures. I wouldn't worry about it when you're in your own home. Out in public may be a different story, however.

  • I put a blanket down, (quite a big one, actually) but Leeland rolls off of it. It's inevitable.

  • We also have all hardwood but area rugs in the dining room, living room, and an entry rug in the foyer.  I stopped laying out blankets when she became mobile because they actually caused her to slip and fall more.  She's bonked her head on the wood floor here and there (when she was younger) but it never bothered her.
  • We can't put a blanket down anymore because L just rolls himself up in it if we do.

    Love it!

I gave up on blankets a while ago, she'll just get off it and try go for anything that isn't on the blanket. I say let them run free!

  • Thanks Ladies! I just needed some confirmation! =)

My DS also rolls up in the blanket! He LOVES peak a boo so much that he'll put any blanket over his face and just wait for us to say, "Where's baby?" haha. The blanket has become a hazard! =)

  • I used to have those foam mats I put down, I could wipe them down daily (okay a few times a day) but once she started rolling and now is a crawling terror there's no point. I vacuum her areas every day.

  • We stopped with the blanket when he started crawling.
