3rd Trimester

Dry mouth

This is rapidly becoming my least favorite pg side effect. Every single night I wake up about every hour (more often on bad nights) with my mouth completely dried out. Not just kind of gummy or cotton mouthy, but literally completely bone dry, like sandpaper. I have to drink water constantly in the middle of the night practically in order to move my lips and tongue at all.

It is SO GROSS and so uncomfortable. The maddening thing is, I can breathe through my nose, so I have no idea why this is happening, but it happened with DS too, so it's definitely pg-related. I have never had this at any other time, even with my worst cold. It SUCKS.

Re: Dry mouth

  • The same exact thing started happening to me last week. Add that to the excessive peeing in the middle of the night bc of all the water I have to drink and I get no sleep. It sucks.

  • Hi Cajun. Hate to hear that you're going through it too, but I am glad to hear it's not just me! I have never heard anyone else talk about this!   The good news is, if my last pg is any indication, it stops immediately after delivery.
  • Amen. I fall asleep with mouth closed, but once I wake up to go pee and come back, I suddenly can't breathe unless mouth is open (although nose isn't stuffy, it's just doesn't want to work). I had to start leaving a bottle of water next to the bed so I could try to get my mouth back to normal.

I also snore like a train is running through our house apparently. Poor DH.

  • Same issue here - except I am dry all day long! ?I have been drinking so much water but it doesn't seem to work. ?I also chew a lot of gum to keep my mouth somewhat hydrated - especially at work. ?

    You are not alone!?

  • I have this too! and I get it during the day AND night, often accompanied by a gross taste that I can't get rid of no matter what. I was thinking it was related to reflux. Oh, the joys of pregnancy!
