Growing Pains or something else?

Every night lately (like for the past couple weeks), Abigail has had a hard time going to sleep because she says her arm and leg hurt. Right around the joints. Is this growing pains or should I take her to the doctor to get it checked out?

Re: Growing Pains or something else?

  • I think it might be growing pains.  Finn does this alot lately and the next day his shorts are daisy dukes and he's wearing half shirts.  I think if she can walk on the legs and move her arms around then it should be OK?  But you could always call the dr/nurse to ask and they might have a series of exercises to put her through over the phone versus having to take her in?

  • She may be dehydrated.  Most of the stuff I've read on it points to not getting enough fluids.

  • It won't hurt to get her evaluated. I took my 3-year-old in, because she had been complaining "it hurts inside" her legs, mostly at night. She did have cramps that we could feel sometimes, but not always.

The doctor did a thorough exam and attributed the pain to being very active and having lactic acid in her muscles, plus the cramps... the solution is to stretch before bed (static stretches) and make sure she is well hydrated.

I was pretty sure it was growing pains or something like that, but I wanted a professional's opinion on the matter.
