Update to DH has an interview

DH had his phone interview with Bright Horizons Childcare today. She really liked him! That being said, she said the job positions fill really fast and so it might be full by the time he gets there (mid september). However, there are several locations and she said she would call in a few weeks to see what she can do for him. So it sounds good so far! Still have my fingers crossed! : )

The location she was thinking was one in Bellevue. Do you know of any great neighborhoods around there that would be a little less pricy? (even 10-15 minutes away is fine and around 700ish for a 1-2 bedroom apt. If not that close, how about 30 minutes away?)

  • Bright Horizons in Bellevue is in a swanky area of downtown Bellevue.  You're not going to find much in downtown Bellevue for that price I'm guessing.. but there are loads of areas that are in the 15-30 minute range from there... I'd do some searches on Kirkland, Bellevue and Issaquah and see what you come up with... run some of them by us and we can tell you what the neighborhoods are like.

Bothell and Renton will be in the 30min range during off-peak traffic hours too (45min maybe during peak hours). And you should for sure find something in that range there. GL!

  • Yeah, Bellevue is very $$$. There are cute neighborhoods close to it like Eastgate, Lake Hills. I grew up in Issaquah, but we had to move b/c we couldnt afford it. Renton is close-ish and has some nice areas (just stick closer to the east side).

  • To be honest with you, you probably are not going to find anything around 700ish anywhere on the east side or Seattle proper except for maybe some smaller one bedroom apartments.  If that is your price range, you may want to look further south or north of the city for work unless the pay is enough to offset the higher rent.

I commute through Bothell to downtown Bellevue on the bus and you can get here in under 20 minutes that way. There are a few bus options to choose from and Bothell is a nice little town.

Oh- I forgot about the bus :/ Very true! You could find a one bedroom in Bothell for 700ish if you make sure to ask them about their specials. Even a little further north (S. Everett/Mill Creek) will have options for about that price range, but again its a little further. But if you are willing to take the bus or vanpool or something, the commute is much better.

  • Thanks fir the suggestions everyone. Is there anything that is in that price and distance range south of Seattle? (That is also a nice area for families?)

  • You wouldn't really want to live south of Seattle and work in Bellevue...  Or is there another potential job location?

  • Well, since DH doesn't necessarily have a job through Bright Horizons, we are also looking closer to Olympia. We are open to any areas between Olympia and Seattle for jobs and apartments. And if Bright Horizons has an opening at one of their Renton locations that would be ok too.

I figure if we are open to more areas, we will be able to find something easier!

  • In general the further away you get from Seattle and Bellevue, the cheaper you will find housing to be.  You would probaby find some cheaper options with a better commute in the Renton area.  And a friend of mine lived in Olympia for a while in a very reasonably priced apartment, and really liked the area.

Olympia is at least an hour from Seattle.  So IMO it would be hard to find a place that would be convenient for either Olympia or Bellevue.  I'd try to find the job first and then pick the town you want to live in if that's at all possible.

About halfway between Bellevue and Olympia is Federal Way... That's going to be a *** of a commute either way I think.
