Speaking of chances of having twins - does having fraternal twins necessarily mean we "hyperovulate"? I read one short article (one of the first pages that shows up when you Google it) that said there is a specific gene for hyperovulation and releasing multiple eggs. I'm not planning to have more kids, so it's just curiosity. But if there were a twin gene and we could know whether we had it, then wouldn't it be possible to know your likelihood of releasing multiple eggs? The only X factor would then be the likelihood of both eggs being fertilized, right?

Re: Speaking of chances - hyper ovulation?
hmm.. the kicker being I'm pretty sure you don't hyper ovulate every month....
and I think some women are more "hyper" than others...
add to that your yam intake for the month.....
you see how it gets complicated.
4 Fresh IVF cycles + 1 FET where embies didn't survive the thaw = 2 perfect little men!
sFET 11/9/11 - Beta 11/18 BFP!
LMAO you're punny today! But yeah I think you are right on the first two points....and I suppose one DOES have to consider the yam intake too. Also agree that you have to have "super sperm" strong enough to make it to BOTH eggs if two are released. This is why I am now urging DH to go into genetics with his biology degree. There are so many unanswered questions about multiples!
Havent really heard of being diagnosed with hyperovulation but my twin use to spot midcycle every once and awhile and Drs said it could be her body releasing more than one egg a month...but they never did any tests or diagnosed her with anything since she had normal AF every month.
the spotting was not during ovulation either just a random bleed in her cycle
My (paternal) great-grandmother had two sets of boy/girl twins, and my (maternal) grandmother had two sets of boy/girl twins as well. The thought of my ovaries doing anything "hyper" does not set will with me, lol!
