Pregnant after IF

PIO ? from a lurker

Hi girls! If any of you remember i posted here around April and hope to be back any day now :) But i had a question about PIO. Did anyone do them in the thigh? Do you have any tips on how to make the pain go away? The shot themselves aren't too bad, except feeling the oil going into the muscle. By the time i wake up my legs are so stiff and painful I cant put any pressure on them to sleep. I tried walking around this morning and it was a horrible idea. They are doing a little better painwise but i am still having difficulty walking. Any suggestions are greatly appreciate! TIA!

Re: PIO ? from a lurker

  • My nurse showed me how to do them in the thigh but said she really didn't recommend doing them there unless I absolutely had to for the reasons you're saying.  She said it gets to be very painful the next day and you can barely walk.  I just did them in my butt/hip area.  Is there a reason you want to do them in your thigh?

When i did them in my butt last cycle my p4 kept fluctuating and i ended up m/c. My RE thinks my butt was not a good absorption site and wanted to start this cycle with a different site. I was willing to try it if it showed consistently good results. Tomorrow is my 3rd check and so far the numbers have been good and consistenly rising. If this is a better absorption site then i have to stick it out for the long haul. It is in no way easy and I dont recommend it unless you really have to.

Ahh, okay.  That really sucks, I'm sorry I don't have any tips for you.  Do the nurses have any for you?  I hope this works out for you with this new injection site though!  Good luck!

  • Sorry, I have no advice for you, but I can't believe you have to do them in your thigh!!!  I did it ONCE this time to give my booty  a break and it was the biggest mistake!  It was fine doing the shot but the days to follow were the most painful days I had experienced in a very long time.  I could barely walk for days!  It literally took 10 days for the pain of one shot to go away.  I am so sorry you have to go through this!

Thanks so much. It is unbelievable how much pain it causes. But apparently this is how my body absorbs it and id do anything to help me stay pregnant this time! But wow, that is some intense pain!

  • I only did it once in the thigh and it was the most painful thing.  Way worse than in the hip/butt.
