Two Under 2

Wish me luck Mamas!

Ok so it's day #2 of the "one-nap-per-day" transition for DD.  She is only 10 1/2 months (yes I know it's early for 1 nap but it's for my own stir crazy/sanity reasons and she's pretty easygoing about sleep).  Yesterday was AMAZING.  She woke up at 7:45am and started her nap at a crazy 1pm...didn't mean to stretch so long but she seemed fine and refused her morning nap so I went with it.  She had a 1/2 hour of quiet/dark time in her crib around 11 in hopes of smoothing through to the afternoon naptime.  It worked.  She took an incredible 3 HOUR NAP from 1-4 at the SAME.TIME.AS.HER.BROTHER.  Hell yeah!  I could get used to that.  (But let's not get ahead of ourselves here right??)  Today she woke up at...wait for it...8:45am and I just put her down at 1pm at the same time as big brother.  She slept a full 12 hrs straight last night and was very well rested so she was pleasant all morning and through lunch.  Keep your fingers crossed for me that this nap sticks.  I'd love a good 6-7 months of this before round 3 arrives!

I still struggle with thoughts of being a bad mommy for trying this transition early for my own "selfish" reasons but if it doesn't work we'll just go back to the 2 nap program...ugh

Re: Wish me luck Mamas!

  • Good luck!  My DD was down to 1 nap a day around 8 months... more her choice than mine but I of course went with it.  I now put both kids down around 1 and get at least 2 free hours to myself everyday.  I know this will be short lived with #3 coming but I'll take what I can get now!!!

  • that sounds heavenly - what a perfect time for you to have some down time to yourself, get a few things done, and be re-charged for when they're awake again!

don't feel guilty at all for being 'selfish' on this sleep issue.  clearly she is doing well with the transition so far, and getting in all her sleep needs throughout the night and at naptime.  besides, a rested, happy mama is the best thing for your kids, and 3 hours of uninterrupted kid time would have me much better prepared to tackle the afternoon and bedtime than if I was tired and frazzled.
