Well, I'm in limbo land updated

Just thought I'd update ....

We went in this morning for our ultrasound to confirm that it's a blighted ovum or whatever and to get a plan. Only now he's measuring something in the sac ... he's measuring me at 6 weeks 2 days (and I should be 7 weeks 1 day). He isn't sure if he saw a heartbeat or if it was the machine flickering ... he sat on it awhile and just couldn't decide. So he's bringing me back on Friday for another scan. At that point it will have either grown or not. He's not overly optimistic and said to prepare for a D&C on Friday but we shall see.

My questions are multiple ... IF it's a heartbeat, why am I measuring so far behind? Is something wrong with the baby? Second, I asked him if he looked at Friday's scan and he said yes. I didn't ask him if he saw anything on the scan or not but he's saying it's possible it just quit growing at 6 weeks 2 days but if that's the case why didn't she see it on Friday's scan at 6 weeks 5 days? Is he just a better trained eye?

UGH!! I'm in limbo until Friday!!!

I'm sorry you're still stuck in this limbo. I hope that everything will work out for the best and you are seeing a yolk sac/fetal pole/beginning heartbeat in there. A few girls have measured a week behind at first and then caught up, so try to stay optimistic! I hope you have a little fighter hanging on in there. Lots of T&Ps to you!

I'm sorry you are still in limbo. It is "normal" to be up to a week off in measuring, but it's impossible to know at this point whether the baby is just a late implanter/slow starter and will catch up or not viable. Everything is so tiny at this point and unfortunately it sounds like a waiting game to see for sure what's happening. Sorry they can't give you more definitive answers at this point and you have to continue waiting.

I hope it is good news for you! I only measured 6 weeks when I should have been 7, the baby only caught up this past week. I really am hoping that there is something there!

Oh Kali, I'm sorry you're on this situation. All I know is that it is possible to be that behind in development and still deliver a baby, but it is not a guarantee.
Even if they want you to prepare for the worst, I'll still be hopeful for you.

So sorry you're in limbo.. I was OVER a week behind when we first started out. It wasn't until week 10 we caught up. So far everything has seemed ok with this pregnancy. My NT scan showed me very low risk. I hope you get some Answers soon!! ((hugs))

Something similar happened to me. There was 1 empty sac at my 6w ultrasound, and my OB said it was a blighted ovum. The other one had a heartbeat. They said this can happens w/ twins & IVF. Well, at my next appt (7.5 w) that sac had a hearbeat! And, ironically, the other one had a very slow heartbeat -- the OB gave that one a 50/50 chance. At my next u/s (8w), both had great heartbeats and are measuring exactly on track. It was such an emotional couple of weeks.

Just try and hang in there -- hopefully your next u/s will show a great heartbeat and things will be OK. And regarding betas....I think they do start to slow down after a while. I only had 3 betas before my u/s. Best of luck, sweetie. (((hugs)))

Doubling slows down once you get into the thousands, so I wouldn't take that on face value as a bad sign.

Between 1200 to 6000 mIU/ml	72-96 hours
Over 6000 mIU/ml	more than 96 hours
