NBR: Target's return policy?

I have some items I received as gifts that I'd like to return/exchange.  I do not have gift receipts.  I can't find the store's return policy and don't want to go all the way there just to find out that they won't take the items at all.  Does anyone have any idea what their return policy is for items without receipts?

  • I'm registered with Target and I read online that if you didn't get a gift receipt, you can go to the registry kiosks at the store and print out a gift log, which will act as a gift receipt. GL!

This.  But they still only accept a limited number (2-3 I think) of non-gift receipt returns per person, per year, even with the gift log.

  • Put the item on your registry on-line then go return it.  I used to make registries all the time to return crap I didn't want from target.

  • Thanks, but these weren't off a registry, so I'm not sure if the policy is different...

I actually just returned duplicate gifts last night and recieved 142.00 from the items. There were 5 total. I had 2 gift reciepts and for the rest they had me print off my purchased list from the kiosk. They just issued me a gift card and I was on my way.

This.  I know it sounds crappy and sneaky, but sometimes the return policies are just too strict and do not favor the customer.  I once bought an item that was from the Target Home collection.  It was damaged and, although I originally wanted to just swap it out for another one, there were none left so I needed to return it.  I lost my receipt and they wouldn't take it back! I mean, seriously- it's your STORE BRAND! Where else did I purchase it from?

When I had a few things to return from my bridal shower that weren't from my registry, I was lucky to find that some of them were sold at the store we were registered at- I added them to my registry and then brought it in to return.

This is what they had me do. They said you can return up to $150 without a gift receipt.

  • bring your state id/driver's license and you should be fine. You can return up to a certain dollar amount ($100 I think) per year with no receipt or registry needed. I just did it yesterday. As long as it is theirs, they'll take it back. One item didn't even have a tag but I knew I had seen it there and they just grabbed on off the shelf and used that tag to allow me to return.

  • I returned a bag full of items with no receipts with no problem at all. I've been to 3 or 4 stores (Walmart, Target, BRU etc) and returning items and the policies all seem the same.

Dh and I received wedding gifts from Target that were not on our registry and when we returned them we got the current price for the item on a gift-card. It's the same situation that you're in... so I would assume thatt it would work out similar.

  • I return stuff to Target all the time. They will take it back without the receipt but you will only be able to get a gift card not cash.
