Last week a nurse from my Dr.'s office called to tell me that the last time I was there (10 days before) I had "trace" amounts of bacteria in my urine. She said it was only 10,000 units and to be dx w/ a UTI you need to have 100,000 units. She said they wanted to follow up w/ another test, so I gave them another sample last Thurs.
They called me today and I guess there was enough bacteria from my sample last week that they want to put me on antibiotics - but she said it's still a small amount of bacteria.
It bothers me that I've had bacteria in my urine now for over 2 weeks and they're just putting me on antibiotics?? I guess it must have been a small concentration if they didn't do it sooner...am I right in thinking that UTIs are only threatening to a pregnancy if they turn into kidney infections?

Re: UTI?
I've always heard the same thing - that UTI's are common in pregnancy and only become a big deal if they move into kidney infections.
Good luck! I hope the antibiotics kick it for you!

i would be irritated too!
sometimes when i'm there i feel like all the nurses and docs are so rushed that they don't even test my urine. i swear, next time i'm going to stick around until i see them testing it and i'm going to confirm with them everything is OK.
sorry that happened to you, that sucks
maybe mention it to your doctor next time you are there, let her know you were disappointed with how long it took to get back to you.
