3rd Trimester

midnight nausea?

So for the last week or so (not every night) but I have gotten a really bad case of nausea during the night.  It wakes me up to the point where I think....Crap, I've got the flu.  Does anyone else get nauseous during the night at all or know what this could be?  Thanks!

Re: midnight nausea?

  • YES!  Since third trimester I will wake up in the middle of the night so sick.  I told my doc about it and she didn't really seem concerned.  She made a joke that the baby must not have liked dinner.  About two weeks ago, I was reading up on thrid trimester and what happens during this statge of pregnancy and I read that the intestines will relax a bit to help prep for labor and contractions, and this can cause bouts of nausea and diarrhea.  (the diarrhea has started recently for me. Friday night I was throwing up and then Saturday morning around 7 the diarrhea started (TMI, sorry)...maybe labor soon? lol )

  • I've been plagued by nausea both pregnancies so far, but much less severe this time around. I do find this time around I'm not as nauseas during the day, but middle of the night, to where it keeps me up. Not sure why, but it sucks! As if getting sleep anymore wasn't hard enough already.

  • I get it really bad in the evenings. The pregnancy gods are cruel, I'm so hungry all the time, but I have no space in my stomach for food, and when I fill it, I vomit. Lame.

  • I had this for 3 nights in a row, now I prop up my pillows so I am sleeping with my hear and shoulders elevated and on my side.  For some reason this helped reduce the nausea.  I don't know if it will work for you though.  Good luck... puking at midnight is never fun.

This is what I have been doing too. It seems to help to be propped up. I hate it bc I wake up to go to the bathroom and then feel totally nauseated and it's hard to get back to sleep. *sigh* I sure hope the next 12 weeks go by fast...

  • Could it be heartburn?  I woke up at 1 am a few weeks ago and threw up. Ugh!  Now I chew on a tums as I get into bed.  It seems to be working - so far!
  • I'm having killer acid reflux which feels a lot like nausea, it does make sleeping difficult.

Same.  I have had morning sickness almost this whole pregnancy but now it seems like it is only because of the heartburn.  Tums definitely help and I don't feel nauseous for a while after I have some.
