Facebook Group / Privacy Warning

I asked for an invite to the FB group and Emily, it seems you added me.

The problem is, the fact that you added me appeared on my news feed & a friend just texted me, wondering if I'm pregnant.

In December, FB first allowed you to hide your recent activity from your friends' feed (and I took advantage of it), but now I can't find that setting anymore; it seems it's unavailable.

So, until I can figure out how to control my privacy, I have deactivated my FB account.

Any ideas on how to not have "Ashley B-- just joined Cincy Moms group" show up in my friends' feeds?

  • I believe you can delete it from your wall as soon as it posts there by clicking the x box, but I'm not sure how to keep it from showing up at all.

I would do this, but it's not on my wall.

When the new settings became available in December to hide recent activity, I took advantage of it & my recent activity disappeared from my wall.

However now, it's still not on my wall, but it's apparently showing up in my friends' feeds. Furthermore, I can't find the place in privacy settings where I had originally disabled my recent activity.

  • You can delete it immediately from the news feed also.  With that said, I don't think there are any other ways.  We used to have the group totally private but it was a pain b/c people were missing everything.  Once you start posting in there though it should only show up on your friends feeds that are also in the group.
Our kids are 19mths apart and we LOVE it!!

  • Whil[e everything else is private, it will show up that you've joined the group. I would just suggest removing the post immediately after joining

  • I think the moral of the story is the reminder that nothing on the internet is private. No matter how many privacy settings there are, whatever is posted in the group is cached and any member of the group can C&P, print, repost it, etc. etc. Just a good reminder that nothing on the web is ever private.

  • I can't remove the single post, because it's not on my feed or wall.

Hey Emily, could you remove me from the group?

     Thanks girls.

I'm not sure if I can remove someone from the group, except for an admin, or yourself. When I searched for your name on the group members list, I don't see you anymore.

I think you can leave the group yourself.  When I go to the group's page, there is a link on the right that says, "Leave Group".  It's right under View Photos, under the Members section.

How do you join the group?

Hazing ritual + a round of drinks at the next GTG.

Kidding! Are you friends with anyone else (from this board) on FB? If so, I believe that any "member" of the FB group can now add you at their discretion.

  • I hate FB right now.  They suck at protecting privacy.
