Food Allergy

Saving milk question.

Hi ladies,

One week ago my LO was diagnosed with a milk protein allergy.  I cut out dairy and have noticed differences in his poop (no more blood) and he isn't spitting up as much.

I go back to work in three weeks and would like to start saving my breastmilk for him for daycare.  How long does it take for all of the dairy to be out of my system so that I can safely give him saved breastmilk?  Can I start pumping next week?

Thanks for any help!!!

  • They say it takes 2 weeks for it to fully be out of your system, but if he isn't having issues now, I would say its probably fine to go ahead and start a stash.

  • also- if you already have some frozen- don't toss it yet!  your LO may be able to tolerate it when he/she is older either mixed with your "safe" milk or on it's own depending on the seriousness of the mspi.

I am glad you said this.  My pedi told me to throw it away!!!  I kept it, in thinking that someday I may be able to use it...I don't have much saved, but it is hard work!!
