What's the deal with Circular cribs?

Hey Ladies!  Wondered if you knew why there are circular cribs for sale online with the others.  I can't imagine a baby sleeping in one for long!  What's the point?

  • My guess is the looks of it.  Other than that, I see no benefit.

  • I hate them, i think they are totally impractical because length wise, the baby will grow out of it much faster than a standard crib---but I guess if you have a REALLLLLY small room, it works----other than that, they are ugly and stupid.

  • I think it's just an aesthetic and/or space thing.  We have family friends living in Munich in a teeny 1 bedroom flat and they have one for their baby.

  • If I was rich I would get one just because they look neat and I wouldn't care about having to buy a new one once it became too small.

As a regular person, I see it as impractical to get a crib that you can't use long.

  • We have a round crib and it's gorgeous. It's 5 feet in diameter so I can't see how it is smaller than any other crib or how our baby will grow out of it.
  • That makes more sense-I didn't know they would be that large!  (I obviously didn't look at their measurements.)  I wondered if they were a bassinet style I just was out of the loop with.  I know I would feel like a princess in one!

I am having the hardest time finding a crib that DH and I both like.  I thought I wanted to go with a more expensive style from the standard baby store, but then I don't know if it's really worth it.  I'm lost, looking for a crib!

  • This is the one we bought:

You do have to buy the mattress separately. I'm not a fou-fou girl so we didn't put the canopy part up. My husband thought it looked weird at first with just the 4 "arms" up in the air and no canopy, but once we put the mobile up it doesn't look strange at all.

It's in the corner of the room and works great there. We get a ton of compliments on it.
