DH and I have our final home study appointment tomorrow morning, and we've done everything that is required of us for this process, so we are less than 24 hours away from being finished!
Our plan is to apply to 4 agencies in September. September truly cannot get here fast enough. We'd go ahead and apply as soon as we get the report, but we're waiting until we have the right amount in savings to be able to be matched.
It's so hard to believe that this year started with another pregnancy and another m/c, and here we are a month away from applying to agencies. September was my due date, so it's bittersweet. I am so thankful that we were able to make September work for us in some capacity.
Anyway, just thought I'd share.
Re: Getting excited..
Woo hoo!!
We matched really quickly, so just be prepared, it can happen anytime! Are you applying to national agencies or using a consultant or something?
That is exciting! Congrats!
(and we were a quick placement too
We hired a consultant to help us understand the process and help us with our timing considering our finances, completing the home study, etc. They also helped advise us on our Life Book and such. As far as applying goes, they recommended several agencies that fit our personal and financial criteria in various states across the U.S. that have favorable laws for adoptive couples. We've selected 4 of those to go with after looking into them further. I seriously don't know where I'd be without them. They were so informative when we were otherwise lost.
I've heard matches can be quick, so we definitely wanted to at least have a minimum in savings for that opportunity. As it is, it would have to be a rather low cost adoption (ETA: $30k) for us to accept a BM situation right away, but I would imagine we'll be waiting at least a few months and we'll continue to save, save, save during that time.
How quickly did you match? How about the others in this thread?
We matched in about 2 weeks. That was mid-October and Luke was born December 9th. It was the shortest and longest few months of my life. :-)
*Sigh* That sounds... amazing. I can only hope for such a wonderfully "short" time!
I hope you have an even shorter wait time!
Also, YGPM. :-)
Back 'atcha.
You should be excited!! We are almost on the same timeline. We are waiting on our FBI background check to come back and as soon as it does we will distribute our profile to agencies and attorneys that do not require any fees until we are "matched".
I hope September comes fast and you are able to get through the heartache associated with your EDD, and quickly have that pain eased with the arrival of your "take home baby"!

It is so exciting, isn't it? We have our home visit next week - then we are pretty much done! Well, we have one class in September on Multi-cultural parenting, but they will complete our home studiy prior to that.
It's an amazing feeling and it makes it feel like everything is really happening.
I wish you the best in everything and hope you have a very short wait!
