Nerdy question about Anatomy Scan

Okay y'all, this is kind of a goofy question, but for all of those who have already had their Anatomy Scans:

What did you wear to your appointment?

For my last couple of appointments, which have only been quick Dopplers, I have just worn little summer dresses, and just laid back and lifted up my dress and let my undies hang out for my doc to do the Doppler.

But for the anatomy scan, since it's such a long time with the US tech... is it easier to wear low shorts and a top that can be raised up?  Do you hafta take your shorts/pants/underwear off?  Or can they just be pulled down low?  I guess I just have no idea how low they go with the ultrasound probe, or how much room they need, or what.

And I don't want to make my US tech or anyone feel weird to just have me chillin' in my undies with my dress up over my shoulders!!

Haha, the more I type of this, the more ridiculous it seems.  But hey, I'm just trying to be prepared!!

Also, now that I'm asking my dumb questions, here's one more:  is the whole thing done on the belly?  Or is there any transvaginal ultrasounding as well?

Thanks in advance for responding... don't make fun of me too much!!  Haha.  Embarrassed

Re: Nerdy question about Anatomy Scan

  • I wear dresses to most of my appointments right now, and ask for a lap blanket (the thing they put over you for paps).

I think it'd be awkward to just sit there in my underwear lol. I just tuck the blanket in to the top and it covers most of my legs, but exposes my belly.

  • I have had 4 or 5 ultrasounds, and I have worn dresses to all of them.  She just puts a little cover over me and tucks it into my underwear.  At this point, they probably won't need to go so far down, but I plan on wearing a dress again.  So much more comfortable.

  • I'm always given a lap blanket.  I prefer dresses becuase I find pulling my pants/ skirts down so low uncomfortable.  Actually - I would rather just remove the underwear all together and wear the lap blanket for coverage.

  • I never wear dresses, and I was coming from work so I had a top on and dress pants.  The just had me unbutton my pants and they tucked a towel in my underwear.

  • shouldn't be trans vag

I will wear either a skirt and top or shorts/leggings and top.  I don't like chillin in my undies on the table for that long, especially considering how cold it is at my dr's office.

Last time I wore jeans and a sweater and I had to eventually take the sweater off b/c it was pulled up to my neck!

  • I was actually warned NOT to wear dresses. I always wear an elastic waist skirt that I can easily pull down.

  • I make sure to wear pants and tops (or skirts and tops) on ultrasound days. I'm just more comfortable keeping my pants on. When I go, they tuck a big paper drape thingy into my pants / underwear (which need to be pulled down to below the hips anyway), so they could just as easily tuck it into only your underwear.

Also, you're not asking stupid questions. I called my OB's office to ask whether my 16-week anatomy scan would be transvaginal or abdominal. I'm sure they hear that question all the time (it was abdominal, btw).

  • I always shorts or pants and they always put a big piece of paper over my legs and tucked into my underwear so that the gel doesn't get all over my clothes.  I'm sure they would do the same if you wear a dress.  The ultrasound is abdominal.

  • I have never worn a dress while pregnant (literally, I've worn skirts, but never a dress) and I have never had to take my pants off for an ultrasound.  I would feel very awkward wearing a dress for my ultrasound.  I would just wear regular mat pants/shorts/skirt and pull them low.  All I really had to do was push the belly panel down (I wear the 3 in 1 type, so the panel goes entirely around the top of the jeans) and they were fine.
