We had our first home study visit today. It went super well, and it wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it would be. Our case manager came with two stacks of paperwork. One stack that needed to be completed before visit #2, and one stack that needed to be completed before the end of the homestudy process.
He also took a quick tour of our house, and informed us that from what he could see, everything looked good. He'll do a more thorough investigation later, but he assured us we didn't have anything to worry about on the home aspect.
At one point, I made a comment about how we would probably have all the paperwork done before the end of the night, and he said if that was the case, then we could schedule the second home study visit for next week. Yay!
Next week we'll be conducting the interview portion, so I'm kind of nervous about that. He warned us that it was going to be pretty invasive, but it was necessary in order to ensure that we're a good fit for foster/adopt. He gave us a general idea of what kind of things we would be discussing (i.e. childhood, adult life, marriage, sex, etc.), but if you guy's can give me more specific questions you were asked, I'd appreciate it.
Other than that, we're just waiting for next Wednesday to arrive. We already completed all of the paperwork, and drove to the county office to turn it in. I can't believe that in no time at all we could be officially licensed!!
I posted more about the visit in my blog, but wanted to let you all know how things went.
Re: First home study visit...complete!!
Cool! We had our first home visit today too! It's neat to know someone else is in exactly the same place we are. I need to go to the store tonight to get a huge binder to keep all of our info organized.
She looked around our house and we only need to change a few things. We need smoke detector in every bedroom. (Currently, we only have one upstairs and one down.) We also need fire extinguishers upstairs and down. Our next meeting is on Tuesday. This is so exciting!
