Sunshine is mine

I'm sure some of you watch toddlers and tiaras! Last night's new episode featured a little girl named Emerald. I noticed as a NN her mother was calling her Em, Emma, and Emmy. My initial reaction was that I hated it, but I think it might be growing on me a little now....WDYT?

A good friend of mine (Hi Allie!) briefly considered adding Emerald to her list of options for her DD. 

I'm not sure how I feel about it. I like that it's daring, and that it has 'normal' NNs for the kid to fall back on in case she hates it. But...I'm still just not so sure about it. I can't decide if it goes with Ruby and Pearl as a classy gem name or Diamond and Crystal as a trashy gem name.  

I feel like a single association could push me into loving it or hating it.

I saw that last night. I thought it was different and kind of liked it. Although, in my town, the strip club in named, "Emerald's," so it would be a no-go here.

My knee jerk reaction is to place Emerald into the trashy gem category with Diamond and Crystal. Love the possible nn's but not the name

If you like Emma or Emmy, why not just go with those names? IMO, yelling "Emerald!" across a playground seems awkward.

Well, Esmeralda's a real name, so I guess Emerald could work.

i hate it. SHE was absolutely gorgeous and adorable. no doubt. but the name is awful.

Emerald is the middle name of several males in my husband's family.
