So can your OB really put the mythological "extra stitch" if you have a tear.... I guess I can ask her tomorrow, but would rather hear from you guys first !
I don't believe it. I think you should just pray that you don't need stitches. I had them the first time and getting them put in hurt more than the actual delivery.
I'm pretty sure my OB just repairs the damage and puts everything back as close to its original state as possible. At least that's how it's worked out for me all three times. Things certainly aren't loosey goosey/hotdog-down-a-hallway, but I don't think there were extra stitches.
I agree that the stitches as painful as/more painful than the delivery itself. OW.
pray not. I had a 2nd degree tear and stitches after dd and sex was horrible for months! so painful! for more than 6months! after ds, I had a smaller tear. ob decided against stitching that time, sex was MUCH better.
With ds I had a 2nd degree tear and the stitches burned! But with dd I had no time for drugs and only tore a tiny bit. I begged them not to stitch bc of the pain but they numbed me and I felt nothing. Both times things went back to "normal". Although with both it took 9 months or so to "o". Not sure if it was everything healing or bfing and the hormones. Glad to say everything is good to go now
My nurse kept telling me there was no way I could feel the stitches being put in but I definitely could! And I tell all my child-less girlfriends that the whole labor part is short and easy compared to the 6-8 weeks post-partum . . . stitches and bleeding and hemorrhoids OH MY!
It's a old joke where the dh nudges the doctor and asks him to put in an extra stitch down there to tighten things up after childbirth. I didn't tear or need (I gave birth to a peanut) so I don't know anything about the possibility of this being true.

ahhh..
DD was a c-section, so I have no clue if that's true.
I had many stitches as I was cut twice in a '<' shape.
Maybe I'm being a little naive but how the heck can they 'put and extra stitch' in? I mean, how can you stitch skin to skin, wouldn't there need to be open skin to do it??? Anyone know what I mean?
I had a borderline 2nd to 3rd degree tear. I tore upward and downward.
It was probably the worst part of the healing process and it took forever. The absolute last thing on my mind would be an "extra stitch" for my husband's benefit. Screw that.
Re: The "extra stitch" after childbirth... Fact or Fiction??
The husband stitch!
I have no idea. I didn't require stitches.

My stitches didn't hurt because I was still completely numb. However, I was terrified of ripping them.
My doc used a numbing cream when doing the stiches so I didn't feel a thing. I was actually texting my sister and SIL as I was getting stiched up.
But i think they just put things back to normal. Dh said he doesn't notice a difference one way or another.

Who knows.
I would say it's fiction.
