Reduce hair growth (mine) at 25 weeks

Sorry if this is a weird question - I'm very curious.

So, like many of us, I went through this period in my pregnancy (starting around 19 weeks or so) where my nails were fantastic and my hair barely needed to be washed and I wasn't losing any hairs after my shower or down the drain. Great, good.

I remember reading to expect that sometime after the babies are born I'll experience hair loss as all the new hair follicles go away and I'm left with just my "regular" hair amount.

But I don't remember reading about what's happening now - my hair has really slowed down. I shave my underarms every morning, for example, and they feel as smooth (with maybe one or two missed hairs) every morning before I shave as after I shave. In "regular life" I tend to feel prickly by the end of the day. The same thing is happening with my legs. I shaved two days ago, and they feel as smooth as if I shaved 20 minutes ago (it's cold at work, so I tend to feel prickles quickly on my legs, ordinarily).

Is this normal? Am I missing out on some essential nutrient or not eating enough? So far (last appointment was last week), everything is going amazingly well. Excellent blood pressure, good weight gain, very little swelling at this point, and the babies were each 1lb 9oz on Thursday. I think the medical-chart evidence points to everything being fine, but I just don't remember reading about this (of course, I could have forgotten).

  • I never read anything about it either, but the SAME exact thing happened to me! I usually shave a ton, and I was down to a weekly shave.  Enjoy it while you can, because it all starts growing back fast once they get here :)

  • I don't know about the rate of body hair growth during pregnancy, but I just wanted to say ... enjoy your smooth legs and armpits now!  If your life is anything like mine post-babies, there will be no time to shave!  (Currently, I shave on Sundays if I get a chance and wear my skirts and capris early in the week and pants Wed - Fri!)

  • I had the same thing happen. Maybe it's nature taking pity on us and our inability to reach our legs to shave them during a multiples pregnancy. Wink

  • I feel like I noticed this too and my hair was falling out like crazy during pregnancy and my nails were terrible. Those two babies were just sucking all of the nutrients right out of me!
  • Oh, and I should add my girls were 6 lbs+ at birth, so I don't think I was lacking anything nutrition-wise during my pregnancy!

  • Your hair stays in the same phase during pregnancy.  So the follicles stay where they were when you got pregnant (hair has three different phases - anagen, catagen, telogen).  You've probably shaved the follicles that were active and the rest are resting.

Well that's my best guess.  :)

  • My BFF told me that was going to happen, but with my twins it did not! This time around I only have to shave once a week for my legs and twice for my armpits.
