So I went in for my appt yesterday hoping MAYBE we would see a heartbeat but found out instead of being nearly 8 weeks, we are way behind. Have a yolk salk and a small fetal pole, probably around 5 or 6 weeks, they couldnt get a real measurement cuz it was too small. So now im all worried. So I figure there are two possiblities either I ovulated late (which i believe i do in general) or the pregnancy is at a standstill at 6 weeks and im going to miscarry. So hoping for the first scenario, but it still freaks me out cuz I have heard that late ovulation has increased chance for miscarriage due to your lining and egg not being of optimal ripeness and I am already high risk due to previous misses. Have you heard anything about this?

Re: Late ovulation...higher risk?
I haven't heard this. Not trying to sound like an ass, but did you ask your doctor about it while you were there?
As much as the Bumpies might know, I'd still call my doctor about a medical question, everyone's body is completely different.
If it makes you feel any better, my aunt had her babies later in life. During the first trimester of her second pregnancy, all of the tests pointed to the child having some form of mental retardation, CP or some other birth defect. Every single test. The doctors told her she could terminate up until a certain point, or she could continue with the pregnancy and hope for the best.
She continued with the pregnancy and my cousin Bobby is now in his sophmore year at Bryant University to become a CPA like his dad. He's completely fine.
The tests aren't always right.
I actually asked my OB that on Monday.
I O'd on CD23 and he laughed and said there is absolutely nothing wrong with that and my risks are no higher than someone who O's on CD14 like clockwork.
I am a late ovulator and my doctor said that late ovulation leading to an increased chance of miscarriage is a crock. Some people's bodies just don't gear up to ovulate until later than others. It doesn't mean that the egg is affected. If your body gears up to ovulate, the egg starts maturing and then the ovulation is delayed for some reason such as stress or illness, that could cause the egg to be compromised, but otherwise if you are a late O'er naturally, it shouldn't make a difference.
Think about it this way...you were born with all the eggs you will ever have. They have been in your body for your whole life already. Why would one suddenly go bad just because it takes your body a little longer to gear up for ovulation?
This cycle I O'd on CD30 and they had me come in because of my LMP date for a dating u/s and I was 6w3d when they thought I should have been 8. Luckily I was charting so it wasn't a shock.
My fingers are crossed for you that you just ovulated later and that is why you seem to be a little behind. If you normally O late, that's probably what happened!
I ovulate on CD 25 (and have a 10-11 day LP) like clock work and I have 2 healthy kids and another on the way
Hope everything turns out ok for you!
Not to be rude and just out of curiosity...what does any of this have to do with anything in this post?

I guess it was off-topic because the OP was worried about m/c not birth defects, but I was trying to say that nature has a way of working things out...a late ovulation could still result in a healthy child. Other posters said they are late ovulators and their children are fine, so... I dunno. I'm tired.
CD 23 for me too!
If you are worried, I would have your doctor look at your progesterone levels . . .
I have a progesterone deficiency that creates a short luteal phase . . . not a big deal . . . once my doctor pulled my levels and saw they were low with a history of fibro-cystic breasts and some other symptoms she prescribed oral supplements. Before that . . . I had suffered two back to back m/c . . .
